Singapore has sketched out a new vision for life to return to normal as governments in the Asia zone tighten restrictions once more to limit potential outbreaks of the Delta coronavirus type. The road map, developed by three members of Singapore’s Covid-19 task team, would do away with lockdowns and mass contact tracking. However, task group members argue that it will be nearly hard to maintain this “zero transmission” approach as new varieties emerge and are therefore not sustainable in the long run. However, they insist that adjusting to life with Covid is possible.
The secret to taking a more relaxed stance on the pandemic? Good levels of immunization. By early July, Singapore expects to have vaccinated 66 percent of its people; by August 9, the country hopes to have vaccinated 100 percent.
As more people in Singapore receive the vaccine, the country’s approach to tracking the spread of Covid-19 will evolve. Singapore will track the number of people who become critically ill or are admitted to intensive care units like how it monitors influenza infections. Those who have contracted the virus will be given the option to rest at home.
Because of the global threat posed by the novel, potentially more infectious strains, the ministers have proposed a “multi-year vaccination campaign” and warned that booster shots might be necessary in the future.
According to research by Johns Hopkins University, more than 88% of Singapore’s 5.45 million population has been vaccinated.

What are the limitations?
Those arriving in Singapore by air or water who have proof of vaccination from any country are exempt from the PCR test requirement, as are minors under 12. A negative PCR test done within two days of travel is still necessary for unvaccinated guests. Still, as of August 29, they will no longer be subject to a mandatory seven-day house or hotel isolation.
There has also been a significant relaxation of regulations at the regional level. Using a face mask while outside is totally up to you. The same will be valid for interior masks as of August 29, except for use in hospitals, doctors’ offices, and public transit. On the other hand, they are not necessary for travel in private conveyances such as cars and taxis.
There are no more restrictions on the number of people who can be present or the size of groups. Distancing regulations are not strictly enforced. There will soon also be no more updates to the TraceTogether app.

How is the situation with Covid in Singapore?
Singapore is adopting a “live with the virus” approach. Still, it is warning its citizens to remain vigilant in the event of the emergence of new strains.
The government of Singapore strongly suggested its citizens obtain Covid booster shots. Unless one gets a booster vaccine within 270 days of the second vaccination, their “completely vaccinated” status will lapse under the new rules.
About 1.8 million cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed as of August 25 in Singapore, with 1,584 deaths.
What should those who come to Singapore be prepared for?
The TraceTogether app can be downloaded and registered in advance by travelers. Still, you cannot activate the app until you have passed through customs. Tourists are urged to retain the app on their devices for 21 days following departing the country before erasing it. That’s plenty of time for the authorities to finish contacts tracing in case someone has been exposed to Covid.
